Each August, we host a sports camp at Thread for hundreds of boys and girls from Sinthian and the surrounding villages. We provide transportation for them to the multi-use court across from Thread, where they learn and compete in both basketball and tennis, guided by coach Maissa Fall from the Tambacounda Basketball Association and a tennis pro from Dakar.

It’s one of the highlights of the summer in Sinthian. Most of the kids don’t have team sports at their schools, so this is a chance to pick up a new sport or hone the skills they’ve developed in prior years.

“This year’s camp was a great success,” said Cisse Kante, who helps run Thread and has overseen the camp since its inception. “The kids who participated gave every ounce of themselves and the ambience was amazing,” he added.
