Thanks to its increased capacity, Tambacounda Hospital is performing more C-sections than ever before.
Le Korsa’s redesign of the maternity and pediatric units at Tambacounda Hospital is having an even greater impact than anyone could have foreseen. The hospital is currently the only medical facility in the vast zone to be able to perform C-Sections because of renovations and USAID funding cuts at other regional clinics, and it is absorbing the patients from these other sites.
The clinic in Goudiry, over 60 miles away, no longer has an anesthesiologist because that position was funded by USAID, and has been terminated; their patients are now being sent to Tambacounda. The district health center in Koumpentoum, also 60 miles away, is renovating its operating theater and is referring patients to Tambacounda Hospital. Tambacounda’s own district health center had to pause C-sections because of equipment malfunctions, and are sending their patients to the hospital as well.
Thanks to the redesign, Tambacounda Hospital’s maternity and pediatric units are 300% larger and can accommodate the influx of patients and ensure that mothers and children can get the care they need.
We can’t do it without supporters like you. Thank you.
