The new home of the Women's Center of Dakar is a beautifully designed space where women and children receive top-notch healthcare.

In 2014, OBGYN Dr. Juliette Faye was working in a small room at the Derklé medical center in Dakar when Le Korsa volunteer Prudence Glass saw her and mused, “Wouldn’t it be nice if Juliette had more space?”

That was the seed from which Keur Djiguene Yi, the Women’s Health Center of Dakar, grew.

Run by Dr. Faye in partnership with Le Korsa, Keur Djiguene Yi opened in a small house on a residential street in Dakar in 2015, offering pre- and postnatal care to around 400 patients. By last year, that number was up to 1900 and the staff included two OBGYNs and a pediatrician.

Patient demand has now grown so much that we’re pleased to announce the opening of Keur Djiguene Yi’s new building, a former residence that has been purchased and renovated by Le Korsa to increase capacity and house the clinic indefinitely.

“We are so excited for this bigger space because it will allow us to increase both the number of patients we serve and the services we offer,” said Dr. Juliette Faye, who continues to lead the clinic as its chief medical officer.

“It has always been my dream to help serve the women of Senegal and this ensures that I can continue to do that for years to come,” she added.

Keur Djiguene Yi’s luminous and modern new facility in the Sacré Coeur neighborhood is within walking distance of its original site, ensuring that continuing patients won’t have to travel further to reach it.

As at the old clinic, patients who can afford to pay its full fees do so, subsidizing the costs for women in need. No patient is ever turned away.

The new building offers two floors of space, including a welcoming check-in and waiting area, a play zone for children, several private offices for the staff and most importantly, three private consultation rooms.

“When I was in medical school, I dreamed of working in a beautiful space that met all my needs. This is that place,” Dr. Faye said.
